The Gwent Schoolboy
training camp has been successfully run for the last 30 years. The
format of 3 days training followed by a trial on the final day has
been fine tuned over this period. The riders are split into groups
of ability with usually five instructors taking care of approximately
eight riders per group. Each day the riders have three two & a
quarter hour sessions with breaks between. Each session the riders
get to change the instructor. The camp caters for riders of all abilities
including youth and adult riders from national level to absolute beginners.
The venue provides an excellent variety of sections with steep banks,
roots and rocky streams. The severity of the section attempted by
the group will be varied according to ability by the instructor. All
instructors are ACU licensed and are highly recommended with experience
and enthusiasm. During the week each group will receive two tuition
periods from each instructor on the various techniques of trials riding.
The instructors demonstrate the various techniques required for a
particular section and answer trials related questions. Riders with
catchers often attempt and eventually clean sections they would not
normally ride. With many riders the improvement during the week is
noticeable.
